At AFRIFF, Abacha road is home to stars
MOST Nollywood top celebrities — guests of the African International Film Festival, which ended at the weekend in Port Harcourt -- made the popular Abacha Road in the heart of the city their second home. Not that they were quartered there oooo. Who saiiii. Most of them were lodged in choice hotels in the Garden City. But the 'love letter' they all received from the organisers of the festival soon as they checked into the hotels was the reason they decided to check in elsewhere for food. The AFRIFF organisers declared in the love letter that they would only be responsible for breakfast and that any other meal would be paid for. Ask us the minimum cost for food in those hotels — N4,000 and for eight meals that will be close to N30,000. “Na me born the people wey organise AFRIFF,” was how a popular director reacted when the reality of how much he would be spending on food dawned on him. So, the best alternative for most was Abacha Road. Waka pass caught up with the said director at a restaurant where he was sizing up a plate of eba and native soup and when asked why he chose to eat out when he could have ordered a meal at the five star hotel that he was quartered, he retorted: 'I no dey too like Hotel food…dem no dey give am the same attention wey dis local people dey give am'. Na lie bros….
