"In Nigeria, There Is No Regard For Law And Order": Mr Macaroni Criticizes Senate Over Senator Natasha's Suspension
Renowned Nigerian content creator and activist, Adebowale Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has strongly criticized the Nigerian Senate and its President, Godswill Akpabio, over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a scathing post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mr Macaroni expressed his frustration with the state of governance and accountability in Nigeria. He argued that while corruption exists in every country, the lack of accountability sets Nigeria apart.
Mr Macaroni highlighted the pervasive disregard for law and order in Nigeria, citing examples ranging from the impunity displayed in the Senate to the abuse of power by security agents and the overall neglect of citizens' welfare. He attributed these issues to the absence of consequences for wrongdoing, emphasizing that money, power, and influence often shield individuals from facing justice.
He wrote:
"It’s not as if countries we refer to as ‘saner climes’ are free from corruption. The difference between them and Nigeria is the presence of accountability, at the very least. In Nigeria, there is no regard for law and order. From the impunity in the Senate to the shameless abuse of power by security agents, and the total disregard for the Nigerian people, everyone acts irresponsibly as long as they have power or money.
The root of our problem is the lack of consequences for actions. The rot in this country will continue to deepen because no matter how grave the offense or how many Nigerian lives are endangered by the reckless actions of a few, money, power, and influence will absolve the guilty."
Mr Macaroni outburst stems from the Senate's decision to suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
