Abeokuta Magistrate Court Adjourns Case Against Portable

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

The case against controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been adjourned by a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta to March 26 to allow the merging of his case with those of his workers.

After Portable's arraignment on February 20, the case resumed yesterday. However, the prosecution informed the court that it is better to listen to the case of Portable and his workers together to avoid a waste of time.

A Senior State Counsel, Mr. Timileyin Oredein, made it known to the court that it was pertinent to merge the case against Portable with his workers before the trial could fully commence.

He further informed the court of the singer and his workers' earlier arraignment on February 6 on similar charges, while emphasizing how not merging both cases would lead to an unnecessary waste of time.

Additionally, Oredein urged the court to grant a short date for the charges to be merged and substituted.

The Nigerian Voice recalls that Portable and his workers were arraigned on a five-count charge of conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction while armed with cutlasses and a gun, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

They were also arraigned for allegedly assaulting three officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
