Nollywood Actor, Deyemi Okanlawon Bemoans Impact Of Fans Watching Pirated Movies

By Oluwarantimi Oludase

Nollywood actor, Deyemi Okanlawon, has bemoaned the disadvantage of netizens watching pirated movies.

The Yoruba actor shared a screenshot of a fan who lamented that he is unable to see the latest movie of the actor because he does not have money for cinema, and is planning to see the pirated version. However, a fan of the actor condemned the act, and offered to pay for the ticket of five people to see the movie in the cinema.

He noted that the kind act by his fan took him by surprise, and improved his mindset about Nigerians. He explained that his journey into producing hasn't been easy, and yet, Nigerians go to various sites to see pirated version of their movies.

The actor bemoaned that actors do not receive any form of support from the government to fund their movies, and they resort to selling off their properties for funding, and at the long run, finding pirated versions of their movies makes them lose profits.

"Nollywood producers, especially newbies like myself and my wonderful partners at @bleedingartproduction who try to tell global-level stories, get next to no support from government, financial institutions (forget all that creative industry fund matter), or even industry players, and we end up spending all we have to produce these films. Yet it seems the same Nigerians we love to serve have no idea how much damage and loss their participation in piracy causes our industry."

"@iamjoyessien, thank you for understanding and learning, and @l444nnu, thank you so much for your kindness, love, and support; you have no idea how much you’ve renewed my hope in our people! I am forever grateful!."
