Timaya Speaks On His Controversial Lifestyle And Its Effect
Popular veteran singer, Timaya, has opened up about his controversial nature in the past, and the effect it had on him.
Recall that The Nigerian Voice recently reported that the singer weighed in on controversial singer, Portable's lifestyle, and revealed that he admired the singer because he reminded him of his younger self.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Timaya noted that his controversial nature was a menace, and it always put him on the spotlight because it was an intentional strategy from him.
He explained that it got to a point that he was always in the news, as the newspapers kept publishing news about him, week in week out, and at a point, he became disturbed.
“My being controversial was a strategy but the press took it too far; they wanted to kill me. And back then, it wasn’t the internet; it was newspapers. When they publish it [controversial story], it goes on the street for one week before they publish another one. For that one week, you will be the topic of discussion."
“When you go to buy suya the next week, you will see your face in the newspaper that was used to wrap it. So, it was really hard. And that time, I was the only one causing controversy. People thought I was crazy. My foundation as a Port Harcourt boy also played a role in me being controversial back then.”
