Laspotech students storm film institute
Students of the department of Mass communication, Lagos State Polytechnic recently went on a trip to the National Film Institute, Jos where they shot a movie in just three days.
The movie entitled: Ills, which revolves around the ills in the society and particularly on women and child trafficking, was shot by the students using the equipment at the institute.
Speaking to us recently, Mr. Steven Adesemoye, a lecturer in the department said they embarked on the trip to help reposition Nollywood for better performance.
“This programme makes it possible for the students to carry out supervised practical work in every area of the motion picture including Documentary, Feature/ Short Films Television Commercial, and also earns them at least a screen credit,” he said.
This year, 50 students who were co-sponsored by the school management went on the trip tagged Script to Screen.
He hinted that the two-weeks intensive training is a spring board to a follow up course- Advanced Film Writing and Production in the curriculum of the department of Mass Communication. He added that the institution in line with its mission statement has made it a matter of tradition to technically empower its students for contemporary and future challenges.
“Lagos State Polytechnic is the only Polytechnic that takes part in this kind of exchange programme with National Film Institute,” he said.
Speaking to Daily Sun, one of the students, Okosun Peter, the Internal Auditor of the Mass Communication Students Association who also went on the trip said he learnt a lot within 10 days.
“I went there basically to develop my skills in editing and film making. I went with my mind set on learning. I learnt more of script writing, cinematography and still want to learn more,” he said.
