Nigerian Music Industry Does not Recognise Old Artistes… Rasquie
One of Nigeria's hi-hop pioneers whose reign in the early 90s created many club bangers, Rasquie believes that the younger generation of artistes are the ones enjoying the fruit of their labour.
According to the singer, he believes that there is nothing wrong with them making all the fame needed only that they don't give them the due recognition as old artistes deserve.
He stated that the Nigerian music industry is big enough to accept everyone but only gives respect for the reigning artiste and forget about those that paved way for the smooth operation of things.
The 'Soji' crooner in a chat with Vanguard said, “The industry only recognises and respects the reigning champions. Once you're no longer there, nobody cares about you again, and it shouldn't be so. In the United States, there are some Grammy award-winning artistes that still keep making money from their music even years after they were released.
“There's more money now in the industry. I do feel good seeing these young ones enjoying the fruits of what we, the pioneers, laboured for. It's just that they don't give us adequate recognition.”
