NBC Bans Transgender Movie On DSTV
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has ordered Multichoice not to air a controversial programme titled 'I am Jazz', a mini-series which centres on a transgender child.
Multichoice is the parent company of DSTV, a pay television that is very popular in Nigeria.
Some days ago, Nigerians rose against plans by management of the station to kick off the programme on one of its channels. Those who kicked against it called on the NBC to stop the company from showing the programme in Nigeria because of its content.
The call was however heeded by the watchdog of broadcasting in Nigeria and the show will not hold as earlier planned.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the NBC, Awwalu Salihu, on Monday, it was said that the programme is capable of corrupting the youths as it is also at variance with Nigerian law which prohibits homosexuality.
