I Had to Convince My Pastor Before I could do Secular Music…Chidinma
Singer, Chidinma Ekile, after winning the popular reality show Project Fame, was expected to be a gospel singer in some quotas considering the background she was coming from and how devoted she was in her church choir.
But things turned around when she ventured into secular music and has earned several awards to her credit and still making wave in the ever buzzing industry.
The singer while speaking to Vanguard newspaper on how she was able to delve into the secular world, explained that she had to discuss extensively with her pastor who later accepted her explanation.
She stressed that any gospel artiste going into secular music should not be blamed because one cannot predict their relationship with God.
According to her, “I won't condemn anyone that moved from gospel into secular. You don't know the kind of relationship the person has with God. Before I started, I spoke to my pastor. We had a chat and I told him I am not doing gospel. My song is for everyone, not just the church folks. Everyone knew what I was doing from the start. My pastor said if that is what I want; it's fine as long as 'you and God are on the same page.'
