AGN CHASED OUT OF OFFICE OVER N250,000 RENT DEBT
The National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC), that let out an office to the Actors' Guild of Nigeria (AGN), at the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, has issued a quit notice to the guild over non-payment of rent. Confirming this to Nollywood Reel, the Lagos State Chief Whip of the guild, Femi Durojaiye, stated that “in the next 48 hours (by today), we are going to lose this place. We are going to be thrown out of this building.” He explained further that “this is one of the problems caused by Ejike Asiegbu. Before his impeachment as the National President of the guild, he ordered that all the funds generated by the state chapter should be diverted to the national account. And now, because of the crisis, he has refused to pay the rent.
"Officials of the NCAC were here this morning (Monday this week) with the new tenants that will occupy the office and they've advised us to leave. We're owing them about N250,000 for over one year. Don't you think that is the biggest embarrassment we can face?” Femi queried. Before the guild rented the apartment at the theatre, they were using Winnies Guest House in Surulere as their office. Femi said: “It will be a big shame if we go back there (Winnies). Ejike has not shown any sign of responsibility in him. In fact, he has taken the guild to the cleaners. “I think Ejike is rubbing the face of the guild in the mud because he himself does not have an office and he is parading himself as the National President.
He either operates from O'Jez Restaurant or Winnies Bar. “But I want to urge all stakeholders in the industry to quickly call him to order before it is too late. Lagos is the backbone of AGN in Nigeria and if the head is being rubbished, I'm afraid the whole body will collapse finally,” he stated.
