Stop Flogging Children For Speaking Their Mother Tongue -- Yul Edochie
Popular controversial Nollywood actor turned pastor, Yul Edochie, has advised parents against flogging their children for speaking their mother tongue.
Yul made this known on his Instagram page. He admitted that it is good for a child to have good knowledge of the English Language, however, once such a child tries to speak his mother tongue, he or she should not be flogged.
He noted that it is slavery mentality to flog a child for speaking his mother tongue. He cited an example of the people from China, and they encourage their children to speak their mother tongue, unlike in Africa.
Concluding, he advised that Africans to embrace each other and be proud of themselves instead of feeling inferior to others.
He wrote on Instagram:
"Yes, teach children English. It’s important for communication.
But don’t flog them for speaking their mother tongue.
That’s unacceptable.
That’s slavery mentality which Oyibo people stuffed out brains with.
Will a Chinese man or woman ever flog a Chinese child for speaking Chinese?
Never make your fellow African feel inferior for being African.
If we’re not proud of who we are as Africans & where we come from, we’ll never know where we’re headed."
