Blogger Sues Police, Amosun’s Aide For Illegal Detention
A blogger, Emmanuel Ojo, has sued Ogun State Police Command and one Katib Biliamin, the Chief Security Officer to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, for his arrest and detention, demanding N150 million as damages.
Ojo also asked the 1st and 2nd respondents to tender apology for his unlawful detention in two national newspapers.
The blogger, who was arrested for posting on his facebook walls, a story about the alleged London police quiz of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, for being in possession of US$300, 000 is asking for “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents from arresting and or detaining him solely on account of alleged publication against Mrs Amosun.”
Ojo, in an originating motion, on a notice filed in the Federal High Court, Abeokuta Division by his counsel Ayodeji Eniseyin, is seeking a declaration that his “right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and dignity of his person guaranteed under Section 34, 35 and 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, were violated by the respondents, their servants and/agents who arrested and detained him in Abeokuta, Ogun State.”
No date has been fixed for the hearing of the matter.
