Slaughter Animals in Public, Pay N.5m – Lagos Govt
If the new bill before the Lagos State House of Assembly becomes law, it shall be unlawful for anyone to slaughter animal which is intended for human consumption or dress the carcass of such animal in any place other than in an approved abattoir.
Anyone who contravenes any provision of the proposed law shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of N500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) or six months imprisonment on conviction.
This was disclosed at a one-day stakeholders meeting on “a bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Lagos State Meat Regulatory Authority and for connected purposes”, which was held at the Lateef Jakande Auditorium, Assembly Complex, Alausa.
The bill, when passed into law, will also make the production and distribution of badly processed meat an offence.
