The Fear Of Kidnapping Grips Nollywood

www.nollywoodgists.com reliably gathered that following the ugly and inglorious development of kidnapping actors at movie locations, fear of the kidnappers have now become the beginning of wisdom.

Actors who are currently on various sets in Owerri and its environs, had gone into hiding, for fear of being kidnapped.

If you remember, Nollywood actor, Nkem Owoh was first to experience the ugly incident in November, 2009 when he was abducted. Having spent a week in the kidnappers' den, he later parted with some money.

Another veteran, Pete Edochie also felt the heavy blows of kidnappers. He was abducted in August, 2009 at Afor-Nkpor road, near Onitsha, while traveling to his Enugu house. Pete, was later freed after an undisclosed ransom was paid.

The wife and little son of comic actor, John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu were kidnapped on January 5, 2011. After nine agonizing days in captivity, they regained their freedom from the firm grip of the evil kidnappers, after an undisclosed ransom exchanged hands.

The recent one is the former SA to Imo State government, Nkiru Syvalnus.

The issue of kidnapping in Nollywood is getting out of hand. For Christ sake; is this the way they want to pay us back for making them happy through our movies? For crying out loud; we are not politicians, why must they go after us?

Veteran actor, Victor Osuagwu who recently shook the city of Port Harcourt, with his talk of the town wedding, condemned the act. He wants the government to help put an end to the incessant cases of kidnapping by providing jobs for the army of unemployed youths, especially graduates.
