Appiah, the screen goddess from the gold coast

By Guardian

OUTSIDE the rich line-up of films that she has appeared including Turning Point, a 2012 Hollywood/Nollywood drama written and directed by Niyi Towolawi, the Ghanaian actress, Jackie Agyemang, is a style icon. She is bold and daring on the acting turf.

One of the few actors that have won the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in different categories — Upcoming Actress, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Leading Role — Jackie made a style statement at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival in France, when she swayed attention from the dominant floor-sweeping mermaid style creations to her hand-made Kente gown and a matching neck bead that rested firmly on her neck.

Before 2007, Jackie Agyemang, maiden name Appiah, was just one of the Ghanaian actresses trying to impress a critical African movie audience. However, since she was named the Best Actress in a Supporting Role at AMAA that year, her star has continued to shine.

Her appearance on screen became regular when Edward Seddoh Junior, the writer of Things We Do For Love, invited her to play the role of Enyonam Blagogee. She later took part in Tentacles, Games People Play and many other TV series.

BORN on December 5, 1983, Jackie is the last of her parents' five children. She spent her early childhood in Canada, and moved to Nigeria with her mother at age 10. She married in 2005, and has a son.

Her face can be seen on many billboards and TV commercials in Ghana including a GSMF advert on protection against HIV AIDS, she won the face of U.B in a promotion she did for them on TV commercials and she is currently the face of IPMC for commercials and billboards.

The star actress spent last Christmas with inmates of the Chosen Rehab Centre, Achimota-Abofo Road, Accra. There, she made a donation of food items, drinks and toiletries.

The actress, who has decided to identify a group of needy people to celebrate her birthday with, each year, was unable to do so in 2011 because on her birthday she was filming in the Gambia.

As such, she decided to make her donation to the Centre on Christmas Eve to bring joy to the inmates this festive season. 1n 2010, she spent her birthday with the children of the Dzorwulu Special School.
